Still in its soft launch, we visited George and Onnie’s at The Shops in Ayala Triangle. George and Onnie’s is an all-day Filipino dining restaurant under the umbrella of Wildflour Hospitality Group.
The atmosphere inside George and Onnie’s is a combination of a classy bar with traditional Filipino elements. The bar showcases a wide array of pastries, contrasted by bottles displayed along its back wall. There’s also a small section at the other side that can be converted into a private room.
George and Onnie’s offers a curated menu of classic Filipino dishes, including Filipino favorites, seafood, noodles and a few rice bowl options. Since this was our first visit at George and Onnie’s, we sampled several dishes to fully experience the restaurant’s offerings.
We started with Pork Sisig from the appetizers selection, which turned out to be one of my top recommendations at George and Onnie’s.
The Gising-Gising featured slices of crispy pork belly.
Their version of Pork Binagoongan was intriguing, as it included sautéed vegetables which is a unique twist to a classic dish.
We also ordered two of the best-sellers. First, the Kare-Kare, which featured tender beef cheeks and vegetables in a peanut sauce.
Second, the Sinigang, my personal favorite. George and Onnie’s rendition used Kurobuta pork belly that was incredibly tender, paired by the perfect sour taste I always look for in sinigang.
No meal is complete without a dessert, so we sampled two of their offerings. The Old-Fashioned Chocolate Cake,
and Ube Basque Cheesecake. Even if I am a chocolate addict, I must say that the Ube Basque Cheesecake is a must.
Their Cold Brew Coffee was also quite good. Unfortunately, forgot to take photo.
George and Onnie’s serves elevated classic Filipino dishes. All of the dishes we tried in George and Onnie’s were delightful. The serving portions are good for two to three people, with the exception of Kare-Kare and Siningang, which has larger portions. For the price, it leans toward the expensive side. What I really love about my George and Onnie’s experience is that, even if they have their own rendition of a classic Filipino dishes, they never veer away from the authentic flavors, they just made them better.
If you are craving for a Filipino Restaurant in Makati, George and Onnie’s is worth checking out.
